Serving the Community

My church, InRoads Church, hosts the monthly SYNC gathering that is an extension of Compassion Network that serves the tri-city community area (Fremont, Union City, and Newark).  SYNC is a forum where churches from the tri-cities come together and share experiences on how they helped the community as well as upcoming serving opportunities.  Through SYNC, the Church can reach out directly to the community and really make a difference.

This past Sunday, SYNC had a Disaster Preparedness theme featuring local health, fire, and police officials from the tri-city area including a Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and Red Cross representative.  Although I was unable to make it, I was personally proud that C.E.R.T. was brought in as part of a community ministry.  I have been pretty passionate about serving our community through local programs, such as planning InRoads sponsored blood drives and advocating C.E.R.T.  I was recently certified under Fremont's C.E.R.T. program, and have gained appreciation and comradery with my fellow Fremont residents in addition to training myself to serve those in times of disaster.

I hope that the tri-city Church will sign up for disaster relief, blood drives, and other community sponsored programs, because I believe that we can serve God through programs that already exist in our community and are not necessarily church developed.

"And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."  -Matthew 10:24

"The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'"  -Matthew 25:40
